Explanation is
a text which tells processes relating to forming of natural, social, scientific
andcultural phenomena. Explanation text is
to say 'why' and 'how' of the forming of the phenomena. It is often
found in science, geography and history text books.

• The definition:
Explanation = discuss about theory, definition, ideology or socio and cultural phenomena and natural phenomena.
Procedure = give direction or steps or how to make something.
• The purpose:
Explanation = explain the process of something or why something happens
Procedure = give explanation how to do something through the steps.
• Language features:
Explanation = use simple present tense, action verb, passive voice, noun phrase, adverbial phrase, using technical terms, general and abstract nouns, conjunction of time and cause effect.
